Circular economy.<\/b><\/h1>\n

It is the production and consumption model where resources and materials are permanently recycled and waste is minimised as much as possible, thus extending the life cycle of products.<\/span><\/p>\n

Circular economy in the Industry and Construction sector. <\/b><\/h2>\n

This concept contrasts with the traditional model of the online economy, based on the concept of “use and throw away”. It is now a concept that seems to be obsolete, as it reflects an easily accessible, cheap, and unlimited use and availability of resources and energy with little environmental awareness. <\/span><\/p>\n

The main reasons for evolving and changing towards a circular economy:<\/b><\/h3>\n
    \n
  • The increase in demand for raw materials, in some cases, finite.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • The scarcity of resources.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • The environmental awareness that we have today. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    It is therefore a model where materials and resources are recycled and there is no waste or pollution, in short, in a smarter use of raw materials that helps to reduce polluting emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Progressing towards a circular economy generates various benefits, including reducing pressure on the environment, ensuring the supply of raw materials, which is currently a reality today, and promoting greater competitiveness and innovation in the business sector, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The term circular economy refers to a type of economy that is usually referred to as “cradle-to-cradle”, which covers the entire life of the product, from the moment it goes on the market to the end of its useful life. <\/span><\/p>\n

    The main attribute of the circular economy is its restorative and regenerative purpose<\/b>, it proposes a continuous cycle of development, based on three principles:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Conserve and enhance natural capital.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Optimize the use of resources.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Promote the efficiency of the system.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Another important point in this process is energy, which must be renewable. In this model, waste becomes a resource, so that biodegradable material returns to nature and that which is not biodegradable is reused. <\/strong><\/p>\n

      The reuse of waste that can still be useful is promoted, giving it a second life and optimising the use of resources, minimising them.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Reuse of Materials in Industry and Construction.<\/b><\/h2>\n

      Therefore, when we think about the construction of a building, we imagine that in the future it will have to be rehabilitated. But it is not designed to facilitate this process, nor do we know if it will be able to adapt to future needs; and in the event that it is demolished, it is not considered from the beginning what that demolition will be like and if the materials can be reused. <\/span><\/p>\n

      Little by little, more construction materials are being reused and we are advancing in modular and prefabricated architecture, but for the most part, we continue to design without considering the entire useful life of the building, or its adaptability in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

      More needs to be done to prevent or recycle the vast amount of waste produced by the construction and demolition sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Actions inspired by the circular economy can help achieve goals such as waste prevention and increasing the quantity and quality of recycling of waste produced on construction sites, while reducing hazardous waste materials.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Therefore, solid waste management practices must be implemented in accordance with the principles of the circular economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

      It is possible to improve waste prevention and higher quality recycling by following a series of measures that improve information on the materials used in both existing and new buildings, as well as to strengthen user confidence in the quality of the use of recycled materials.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Adaptable and flexible architecture. <\/b><\/h2>\n

      The new sustainable architecture involves designing with these guidelines, and achieving flexible buildings that easily adapt to the needs of their future tenants. <\/span><\/p>\n

      The involvement of all the actors involved in the construction process is necessary so that the circular economy can be correctly applied. <\/span>They must be trained and learned to carry out selective deconstruction, separating all waste on site in the same way as we do in homes, to facilitate its reuse and revaluation in other processes.<\/b><\/p>\n

      We find several examples of revaluation within the construction sector, for example, the case of concrete where the waste generated by construction and demolition is revalued and used in other infrastructures such as the construction of roads, sidewalks, low-traffic roads… <\/span><\/p>\n

      In the case of mortar, we also find the use of mineral wool residues used as an alternative to the reinforcement fibres currently used.<\/span><\/p>\n
