Do you know what the main differences are between an electric and a diesel lifting platform?

The differences between an electric and a diesel lifting platform are many. More than we can see with the naked eye. This type of platform adapts to different uses and needs, but it is important to know all its features and functions in order to choose the most suitable one for each project judiciously.

Mixed or electric lifting platforms

They are those that are specially designed to carry out work at height indoors. Electric or mixed lifting platforms are capable of working with electrical power, which allows consumption to be much more efficient. At the same time, electric platforms are much quieter than diesel ones.

Diesel Lifting Platforms

They are those that are designed to carry out work outdoors. It also has the ability to work in spaces with unevenness. Diesel lifting platforms reach much higher positions than electric ones.

Main Differences Between an Electric and a Diesel Boom Lift

  1. Electric platforms are designed to perform tasks indoors, while diesel platforms perform work outdoors.
  2. The energy consumption in electric platforms is much lower than in diesel platforms. In other words, electric companies are much more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
  3. Electric platforms are much quieter. This allows better work to be done indoors or at night.
  4. Electric platforms can reach up to 14 meters, with a maximum weight of 450 kg (depending on the manufacturer and model), while diesel platforms reach 18 meters with more than 1000 kg.

Advantages of electric vs. diesel boom lift

Emission of gases

Electrical equipment works with a set of batteries that make its movements possible, therefore, when carrying out work in closed spaces such as warehouses or industrial buildings, they are more recommended. A diesel platform, whose energy is fuel, emits gases that are harmful to the environment if there is not good ventilation, this means working with protective equipment against smoke and gas inhalation, that is, they are designed for outdoor work.

Energy cost

In any type of lifting platform, whether electric or diesel, there are electronic circuits that will need electrical energy for its operation, such as safety lights, movement joysticks… and these will need to be connected to an electric current. Therefore, diesel equipment involves a higher energy expenditure than electrical equipment, since it will need to be provided with diesel fuel and electrical energy (battery) to operate, otherwise, the electrical equipment, being its energy source a set of batteries connected to the device, will not need an extra source for its electronic circuits, since they are going to use these same batteries.
